Last minute Christmas cards

I started on my Christmas cards during the first week of November.  I colored the images, bought the paper, started planning a layout.  Yep, this year I was going to finish my cards early...

Or maybe the supplies would just sit for seven weeks and I'd finally make the cards this morning.

I love this cute little "candy elf" from Make it Crafty.  She's colored with my Spectrum Noirs.

I was playing with stamps from The Alley Way.  I just love the quirky fun designs.  Hopefully, Santa brings me some more sets to play with on Christmas.

CYP #193-ABChristmas

Happy Monday.  One more week of school until winter break, and this teacher is counting down the hours.  I don't know if your kids get better behaved in December because Santa's watching, but I do know that 8th graders get a whole lot worse when a break approaches.  I've definitely needed craft therapy.

This week's theme at Craft Your Passion is
Christmas ABC (Anything But a Card)

I played double duty this week.  First up is a wreath for my new house's door!

Rustic and simple-like me.

I've been dying to color, but I have so many finished images to put on cards, that I feel guilty pulling out my markers.  But then I thought of gift tags and so I used some super cute elves from Melonheadz to make some quirky tags.  (I made 20 of them.  They are all different-but follow the same sketch.  And yes, I ran out.  Apparently I need to tone down the gift buying.)

Can't wait to see you practicing your ABC's at Craft Your Passion this week!

Christmas time!

I love this time of year!  The lights, the decor, the smells, the bunnies... bunnies?  Okay, so the image I used on this card is an Easter one, but for some strange reason, I always associate it with Christmas.  That gal just looks so festive in her red and green.

Supplies: Image-Saturated Canary, Paper-My Mind's Eye, Stamps-Stampin Up, Embellishments-Doodlebug, Color-Spectrum Noir

My hubby and I got some great gift cards for my mother-in-law, so this card is actually a gift card holder on the inside.  Happy holidays!

CYP #192-Let it...

I'm sorry that I haven't posted.  The holidays are so busy.  I've been crafting though.  Just not posting.  But I'm back, and just in time.  It's a new challenge at Craft Your Passion this week.  This week's theme is
Snow
Brrr... Just thinking about it makes me cold.  (Well that and the fact that it's only 3 degrees in chilly Utah)

Here's a card featuring a fun image by Robin's Fetish.

Supplies:  Robin's Fetish, Spectrum Noir markers, DCWV, Stampin Up

Enjoy the winter wonderland and make some snow cards this week!

CYP #190

Sorry that I've been MIA for a while.  But I'm finally back!  This week's challenge at Craft Your Passion is
Give Thanks

Time to be grateful and make a thank you card.  I haven't been too inspired the past week, but thankfully the super cute image from our sponsor, The Sugar Kissed Cottage, redeems my otherwise rather dull card:

I might go back and put the sentiment on a tag since it's not perfectly straight.  Can't wait to see your take on this week's challenge.  Hope you've got some mojo this week-send the extra my way, please!

CYP #188-Doodling

Happy Monday.  Not too great of a Monday for me.  I've been sick all weekend-ick.  (That's the worst, getting a break from work and then being sick during it.)  Home sick today too.  But on the plus side, I might feel well enough to color in a bit-yay!  And Craft Your Passion has a super cheery theme this week, so even if you're grumpy like me, join in.  It's sure to make ya smile :)

This week's theme is
Add some doodling
and it's sponsored by Doodle Pantry.  The image that I chose to use is called Snowboarding Birdie and it just cracks me up.

Isn't he just hilarious?!  I can't get over his adorable expression and funny shades.  The paper is by Paper Studio and the ribbon is clearanced Christmas ribbon.  I'm going to have to check Michaels and see if they stocked it again-it's my favorite ribbon.  Don't miss the fun at CYP this week and check out Doodle Pantry as well (they've got some great Nov. specials going on right now).  Hugs!

CYP #187-Funky Folds

Happy Monday.  Last week was an awesome week.  I won a complete set of Spectrum Noir markers!  I entered their Facebook give-away and won.  EEK!  There are so many colors, I don't even know how to store them all.  I'll be posting a review later this week.

So of course I had to use my new markers for this week's Craft Your Passion project.  Our sponsors this week are Bugaboo and Eureka Stamps.  The theme is
More Than 1 Fold
Time to get funky with your folding.  I used Turtle's Umbrella by Bugaboo for my easel card.

Hope you join the fun this week at Craft Your Passion.  Can't wait to see your fancy folding skills.

CYP #186-Halloween

Good morning crafters!  This week's challenge at Craft Your Passion is
Halloween
Perfect week for that!

I love Halloween.  The cards always have bold graphics and bright colors-my two favorite things on cards.  And my card this week is no exception, topped off with a fun little devil image by our sponsor, Just Some Lines.

I can't get over his cute little bat wings!  So I had to add some batty paper by DCWV.  Be sure to leave some love for the rest of the DT's spooky projects at Craft Your Passion.

IWC #3-Anything Goes

Good morning!  It's the 2nd week of inspiration for Ike's World Challenges.  The challenge this week is
Anything Goes
So grab your favorite image by Ike and get creating.

I used "Here's Kitty" for my card.  I've always hated Schrodinger and his stupid maybe dead, maybe alive box.  Glad that his cat finally gets its say-and I think it's safe to bet that Schrodinger isn't maybe going to not get scratched.

Kitty is colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I used real cardboard that I inked with Distress Inks for the background.  I'm going to send this to my sister-in-law who majored in physics.  She'll find it really funny-she's always hated Schrodinger too.

Be sure to join the fun at Ike's World Challenges.

CYP #185-Think Pink

Happy Monday.  I've been dreading today.  It marks the end of fall break and means I'm headed back to school.  Sometimes, I think the teachers dread it more than the students do.  However, there's one great thing about Mondays-it's a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  This week's challenge is so fun. The theme is
Think Pink
and it's sponsored by Dillybeans!  My card uses their super cute image, Cinnamon Circle Frame.

Supplies Used:  Embellishments-American Crafts, Image-Dillybeans, Paper-scrap pile YAY!, Coloring medium-Promarkers and Bic Mark Its

It was fun to get girly, I haven't in a while.  Be sure to join the party at Craft Your Passion.

Ike's World Challenge #2-Awareness

It's my first post for Ike's World.  I'm so lucky to be part of such a talented team.  Be sure to check out what the fantastic crafters did this week and last week with the challenge.  The challenge is "Awareness" and you can get the image for free at Ike's World's Challenge Blog.  If you haven't joined in, it's not too late-there's still a week to play.

Supplies Used: Image-Ike's World, Paper-Paper Studio, Stamps-Technique Tuesday, Embellishments-American Crafts

I love how much emotion is captured in this image.  It really portrays the beauty and courage of the women fighting cancer.  A crafty friend of mine won her fight a few years ago, but I also know other ladies who are still fighting.  May they all remember how truly beautiful and wonderful and unique they are.

Join the challenge at Ike's World.

CYP #183-Metallic

Happy Monday!  This weekend went far too fast.  It was fun though, especially with World Card Making Day.  But who needs a special day to get crafty?  You can get crafty every week with CYP's challenges.  This week's theme is
Use metal

I had a lot of fun with this challenge, especially when using such a playful image-Happy Dog by our sponsor Kenny K.

Supplies:  Metal-Making Memories, Image-Kenny K, Sticker-Provo Craft, Paper-Paper Studio

I tried to make the red strip look like a collar.  Not sure if that shows or not.  The "fencing" in the back is pretty fun, but it's also sharp, so I'm going to have to be careful about who I send this one too.  Maybe I'll line it with ribbon or paper strips to cover the ends.

Be sure to join the fun at Craft Your Passion!

WCMD Bloghop

Thanks for dropping by!  Hopefully you are hopping along with OWH.  If not, you can go HERE to check out the fun bloghop.

The theme for the hop is thank you cards and OWH asked participants to use one of their fabulous sketches.  I chose Sketch #115:

Supplies Used:  Paper-SEI and Recollections, Stamps-Stampin' Up

Hope you have fun hoppin' along.  Head back to the bloghop for more inspiration, and hopefully you'll find some time to make some cards today too.  Happy World Card Making Day!

Change is Good

You might have noticed that my blog has undergone a make-over.  It's long overdue, but procrastinators like me sometimes need a kick in the pants to get a move on.

Last week, I posted a wedding card with the image of a groom getting the garter off his blushing bride. At least, that's what I thought the image was of.  Some people did not see something so innocent.  I am so sorry if the card offended you.  I assure you, that was never my intention and I was (and still am) so upset at the thought of my cards causing so much offense.

Even though I donate cards to OWH and am on some design teams, this blog is maintained by me.  Dear readers, if you are upset/offended by something you see on here, please let me know directly and I'll sort it out.  There is no need to contact anyone else because they have no control over what is on this blog.  This blog is maintained by me and only me.

Because of the drama caused by that wedding card, I decided to shorten the name of my blog to 104 Cards.  It's something I've considered doing for a while and am glad is done.  I also changed the header and background.  The flowers were far too girly and shabby chic for me, this is much cleaner but still fun.  I'm much more pleased by the look of my blog.  Hope you are too.

Another great change came my way.  I'm on the design team for Ike's World Challenges!

I am a huge fan of Ike's art and am so glad she started selling her fabulous images.  Her realistic digis are astounding, and I'm amazed that she can convey so much emotion in her black and white images.  You'll see my first project for Ike's World next Tuesday, but you can get the stunning image that I'll be using, for free at the challenge blog, HERE!

CYP #182-Simply Charming

Happy Monday!  The weekend sure went fast; seems like I just left work on Friday, and now it's time to go back.  But a crafty challenge will shoo those Monday blues away.  This week's challenge at Craft Your Passion is

Use a charm

This was a fun challenge and the DT was given free reign on images this week so I pulled out my TAWS stamps (naturally).

Supplies Used:  Stamps-The Alley Way Stamps, Ink-Ranger, Paper-My Mind's Eye, Charm-Memory Makers, Twine-American Crafts, Coloring Medium-alcohol markers (Bics and Promarkers)

I got a new toy this week-a distressing tool.  Went a little nuts with it, the olive green paper St. Nick is on used to be blue.  Be sure to link up your charming creations at CYP this week!

CYP #181-the most difficult challenge (LOL)

It's Monday!  Time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  This week's theme is

No Colored Images

I must confess that this was super hard for me and the rest of the DT.  We were told to sit on our hands this week-lol!

I used the image, Vintage Girl, from this week's sponsor, The Sugar Kissed Cottage.

And yes, I cheated.  Can you spot where?

I can't wait to learn a thing or two from you on using non-colored images.  So link up HERE for the challenge!

CYP 180-Autumn Colors

Good morning!  It's the start of a new week which means it's time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  This week's theme is:

Autumn/Fall Colors

I made a card using an image from Barry Throughout the Year from Stamp Fairy.

I know the theme is autumn colors, but whenever I see fuzzy Barry, I cannot picture him any other color than blue.  I might have to try to force myself to make him a new color in the next card.  My hubby surprised me with a set of Bic Mark It markers, so I tried them out on Barry.  It's the first time I've used alcohol markers, and I gotta admit, I'm hooked.  Here's a closer look at Barry's cute face:

Thanks for stopping by today.  Be sure to join in the fun at Craft Your Passion this week!

A cheer up panda

My sister-in-law just got back from q-school.  Q-school is how golfers turn professional.  They go to a week-long tournament and the top golfers are chosen to get tour cards.  My sis-in-law didn't get her card.  She barely missed it by 3 strokes.

It sucks to try out for something and have it not work out.  It sucks more to think of all the time, money, and effort she put forth for this.  So I thought that maybe a happy card might help make her smile.  And really, who could resist smiling at this adorable panda by The Paper Shelter?!

I colored him with Prismacolor pencils.  I mentioned in my last post that I'd let you know how I've been coloring the images.  What I've been doing is choosing 3 tones for shading each area (a light, mid, and dark tone).  I've been laying a base coat of the mid-tone with very light shading and blending using OMS.  Then I have been shading over the base coat with pencils (not using a solvent) following the technique here.  Then I burnish the area using the light tone and lastly add highlights using white like the video suggests.

Here's the finished panda card:

The camera paper went with a "punny" sentiment I have, but the stamp was a bit too long for the area that I wanted it, so I changed the sentiment.  The paper stayed though, because I liked it.

CYP 178-Fairy Magic

Sorry that I disappeared for a few weeks.  My hubby and I bought a house!  It's so exciting to be homeowners and to finally be out of that tiny apartment.  It's crazy, we went from a 500 sq ft apartment to a 2300 sq ft home.  We're all a bit shell-shocked (particularly the kitty).

I foolishly believed that I would be able to completely unpack and set up the house in 1 week before school started.  Ha!  Wistful thinking; I'm still unpacking and decorating while trying to teach.  It's crazy but good.  However, I did set up my craft room!  I'm no longer confined to the corner of the living room, I have a craft room!  Yay!!!  My first project in the room was this week's Craft Your Passion project.  Our theme is:

Do You Believe in Fairies?

You definitely want to participate in this week's challenge because we're sponsored by two awesome digi companies: A Day for Daisies and The Paper Shelter.  I used an image called "Helping the Flowers" by A Day for Daisies.  I think it's a retired image, but they have a ton of new fairy images in the store and even a fairy kangaroo freebie that you can use.

Sorry for the weird colors; my camera is still packed somewhere so I used my hubby's iPad for the photo.  The navy tones are really teals, and the oranges are really reds.  Not sure why the colors turned out so different.  I tried a new technique with my Prismacolor pencils which I'm a big fan of.  I'll give you more details in a later post.  The wings were done by outlining in glue pen and then coating in glitter.  I'm going to send it to a neighbor who has worked really hard at welcoming us to the new home, so I broke OWH's 1st rule and pulled out the glitter.  It's good that I don't do that very often, my new room is coated in gold sparkles!

Can't wait to see all your fairies.  Be sure to link up at Craft Your Passion.

Come a long way...

I sometimes (okay-nearly always) get frustrated when I finish a project.  It never turns out as perfect as it is in my head.  Sometimes I think that artists compare themselves to others too often.  We really should just compare ourselves with ourselves.

I went through my older posts to see if I wanted to save any to an online gallery that I have.  OH MY GOSH!  I'm a bit mortified that I ever posted some of those cards.  Wow, have I improved a lot!

Here's the first card I ever posted to this blog:

Ummm... I don't really have much to say.  The picture really says it all.  Here's my most recently finished card:

I've come a long way!  So if you're frustrated don't quit.  Keep trying, look at other cardmakers that you like, enter challenges, get tips, use sketches (I think that has helped me the most), and only compare your work to YOU.  Keep crafting, HUGS!

Challenge 174-At the Sea

It's Monday, which means it's time for another challenge at Craft Your Passion!  This week is a special treat-it's the first day for our new DT members.  Be sure to check out their work.  They are fabulous!  I just love the whole CYP design team-everyone definitely has their own unique style.  This week's challenge is
At Sea

Our sponsor, Delicious Doodles, generously donated Pirate Polly for me to use.  She's perfect for designing a scene:

The paper is all cardstock by Provo Craft.  I only had one shade of blue so I distressed the sky with white pigment ink to make it look a bit cloudy.  The treasure chest is by Celtic Doodles and the font is a freebie called Fairydust B.

Can't wait to see your sea-themed projects at Craft Your Passion!

TAWS Be Inspired #34

I just love The Alley Way Stamps and their fun inspiration challenges.  Their current challenge is right up my alley (ha ha-unintentional pun-sorry for the silliness) with its bright bold colors and graphic design.

It's my hubby's and my anniversary this week, so I made him a card:

I used the set Lighter Than Air, by TAWS, and the paper is by Basic Grey and Paper Studio.  I went back after taking the photo and colored the little heart in "love" red to match and covered it in glossy accents for some shine.

CYP #173-3D(elicious!)

Hi crafters!  It's the start of a new week, which means that it's time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  This week's theme is:
Make it 3D

Time to get out your dimensional tape and bulky embellishments for some fun with this one.

People in my neighborhood have been begging for my lemonade pie with blueberry sauce.  Hmmm...should I give it out?  It's a family secret.  (Okay, not really-it's from Taste of Home).  So I made a recipe card holder with an image from Cherry Nice Mice from Doodle Pantry (this week's sponsor).

Can you spot the mistake?

Fail!  Ha ha, apparently I've been spelling it wrong my whole life.  My hubby just corrected me.  But I'm not going to redo it, it looks so much classier with the extra "I" (and I'm really tired).

I made the cute sour seeking mouse 3D with mounting tape:

And the card pulls out to reveal a deliciously tart dessert.  You can get the recipe at Taste of Home's website HERE.  Prepare to pucker up!

CYP #172-Birthdays

Happy Monday!  I'm a little late posting my card for Craft Your Passion's challenge.  Sorry about that.  This week's theme is really fun.  It's
Birthday Cards
You can get really creative with this one.  I had a blast with my bright colored Imaginese paper pack and a super cute digi from this week's sponsor, Birdie Brown.

I chose not to use OMS with my pencils this time because I feel like it dulls bright colors.  Probably time for some new blending stubs.  The sentiment is a freebie from TLC.

Do you want to be a part of Craft Your Passion's dynamic design team?  We're looking for some new cardmakers!  Get the details (better be quick, applications are due on Wednesday) and be sure to join the fun at CYP this week!

Birthdays and Bubbles

All through high school, I had two best friends.  The three of us did everything together.  We even have summer birthdays together.  Even though we don't see each other as often as we used to, I still always make them a card for their birthday.  For my birthday, I got with my mom and we made cards.  I mailed the first one already.  After I mailed it, I realized that I'd forgot to get a picture of it-Doh!  But I got a pic of the second one.

My friend has a little girl (and now a baby boy too!) and when I saw this image by Mo Manning, it reminded me of sweet little S---.

Isn't she just the cutest?!  I wish my photo did my coloring justice-any tips on how to avoid washed out photos would be very appreciated.

I think I might need to work on coloring speed.  In our card party, my mom made 9 cards and I made a grand total of 2.  Sigh...

CYP #171-Gratitude

Happy Monday!  This week's challenge at Craft Your Passion is
Thank you cards
I have a new thank you stamp and couldn't wait to use it:

The paper is from the This and That pack by Echo Park and the stamp is by Stampin Up.  I get all my Stampin Up stamps from yard sales during the summer.  The last one that I went to, I got 9 stamp sets, 6 brad sets, and 4 idea books for $40.  I probably would've spent more, but the hubby put me on a limit and took any extra cash out of my purse before I left (for good reason-ha ha).  Where do you find your craft bargains?

Be sure to join the crafting fun at CYP this week.

CYP #169 R,W,& B

Hi craft lovers.  It's time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  This week's theme is
Red, White, and Blue
We had a sponsor drop the ball this week, but thankfully Just Some Lines jumped in and saved the day.  Yay!  Plus they donated some super cute images for the DT to use.  I used Big Hat Girls 1 on my card:

The paper is by Paper Studio.  The chipboard is from a long gone local company.  They gave me about 80 sheets of chipboard shapes when they went out of business.  I have a really hard time figuring out ways to use them.  I adapted the layout from a card by My Favorite Things.  The sample card used a doily under the image, but I saw those fun flower shapes and had to use them instead.  Be sure to join the patriotic color parade at CYP!

Scrap Wrangling

My sister-in-law asked if I could make her some thank you cards.  She is a golfer and has several sponsors that she'd like to thank.  I love any excuse to make cards, so I was all about that.  After I found a sketch, I examined my scrap box.  (All of my scraps are stored in a single-yes, SINGLE-shoebox.)  I've been trying to get the scraps contained for a while.  Going off of OWH's scrap-wrangling and 6x6 tutorials, I set out to use up the scraps.

Here's the thank you cards (I made 2-3 of each):

Then I went a bit overboard on the scraps...

I just mailed a box of cards to OWH 2 weeks ago, but it looks like I'm about ready to mail another one.

This one's my favorite.  Perfect for a guy (or maybe I'll give it to my sis-in-law as well).

This one's my hubby's favorite.  He insisted that I feature it on here.  The googly eyes and silly sentiment crack him up.

And lastly, because I loved this week's OWH sketch:

She is colored with water-based markers and a blending pen.  That's my 1st try at the blender and I think it's alright.  I'd love any tips if you've used blending pens before.

Happy summer!  This week at Craft Your Passion, the theme is
In The Garden
Can't wait to see your garden/flower inspired projects.  The challenge is sponsored by Heather Ellis, who generously donated the images for the DT to use:

My camera seemed to think spring green is neon.  Sorry, the grass is tamer in person.  I used the Cricut cartridge Paper Doll Dress Up for the trellis, vines, and tulips.  The daisies are on the George and Basic Shapes cartridge.  The paper is by We R Memory Keepers and the stamp is a really old one by Hero Arts.

CYP #167 All Dressed Up

It's time for a new challenge at Craft Your Passion.  Wow!  The entries last week were awesome!  This week's a bit tougher though.  The theme is
Let's Play Dress Up
Create a project with an image that's dressed in a costume.  Just like when you played dress up as a kid, your image get's to play pretend.  Stampfairy (this week's sponsor) generously donated Lenny Ladybug for me to use.  Isn't he just so cute?!

I love any excuse to use my ladybug ribbon.  Every time I see the roll, I giggle.  Be sure to stop by Craft Your Passion this week and leave the rest of the DT some love.  Their projects this week are so creative.  I love how even though we used the same image, the cards look so different.

TAWS Be Inspired #30

I just love any excuse to get out my TAWS stamps and play.  Their Be Inspired challenge gave me a great reason to have some fun crafting.

I was inspired by the mint and yellow colors of the ice cream, the dark brown of the cola, and the retro feel of the whole picture.  I found some retro paisley and floral paper that I've had for a while.  I hesitated before I cut it up because I didn't want to use up all my pretty paper.  Does anyone else have that problem?  I've had that paper for around 5 years and still wanted to keep hoarding it.  There needs to be a 12 step program for paper lovers...

Last night, I dreamed that I was at the circus and watched a seal balance things on its nose.  So I tried balancing the sentiment on his nose on the card.  My next card will have him balancing birthday presents!

The seal is from Castaways and the "for you" is from Jibber Jabber.

After the seal, I was on a roll.  Plus I noticed that the paper was double-sided and I definitely needed to showcase both sides (since I forced myself to cut it up).  So here's a bonus card using Bird Brain and Jibber Jabber.

You can find TAWS's Be Inspired Challenge HERE.
